Funny, the turns life takes. Mary and I met in college when we were in the same sorority pledge class at Washington University in St Louis and we shared an apartment there. We met our husbands in school there, too. After graduation, we moved to separate towns, but in the last 14 years we've ended up living just a few miles from one another. Our kids became friends, and John & Mary's daughter now lives a short way from our girls in Chicago where they're also best friends. It's been a delight to have them come for a visit this summer to Lunenburg, and we'll always remember our first day together here with the hurricane blowing outside! Today we drove down the coast for sightseeing, shopping and lunch. Here we are on Crescent Beach where for over a mile you can drive on the sand along the water's edge. For four Californians (where the beaches are packed with people) this was a beautiful sight and a delightfully fun way to pass a half hour!
It looks like a beautiful area. I think it is so neat how your friendships have kept up with each other, not only as far as location, but now also including your Children being so close.
That's wonderful that you have remained close after all of these years, and it's so nice that your children are best friends with each other too. Sounds like you had another lovely day. I can't imagine being able to drive at the water's edge on our beaches either - I bet that would be fun!
I am up and running again after a terribly busy, happy, emotional week, with a few sick days thrown in!
I hope you are enjoying the winding down of your time in NS...and happily anticipating the build-up to baby time!
We are now into full swing wedding mode...less than 5 weeks now... and I fear I may continue to be off and on here as sporadically as I have been in the last couple of months. Though, I DO take pictures everyday. ;-)
Love this picture of you and your friend, and guess what??? My nephew Evan just started at Washington University!
Small world, again! :-)
XO
Great heartwarming story. I have been best friends with the same person for 10 years now, and I hope to be able to look back in years to come and say the same about our children being friends!
It's so neat how your lives have paralleled over the years and that your families have been able to remain friends for so long. How cool that you were able to drive so far along the beach. On Cape, you need a special off road permit to drive on the beaches, and there are only a few that allow you to do so.
Wonderful photo - happy pair! Lovely backdrop, too! Friends - real friends - are often a rare commodity. I wrote this to a friend some time ago...think it fits here:
There are people who wander through your life – enter and exit.
There are others who wander in, do some damage and then stumble on.
And then there are extraordinary people who knock at the door, come in, with love, and stay;
They are...friends.
What a great shot, Louise. I love that you have a friendship that has endured. It's great that your children are friends, too. How wonderful! Was it totally coincidence that you ended up in the same location and that your children did, too?
I love your history with your friend. My best friend and I has known each other for 20 years. Our sons are the same age (9 month from each other) and they are best friends. I hope it will last forever.
I love your picture. And its funny because the nature is so much like the nature here. I think I have a picture in my calender, simular to this one :-)
Love the story of your friendship. I have friends who I went to college with in the midwest end out here in Seattle with me. So nice to have people around with history. Great shot on the beach. Love to drive on the beach...it always feel like I am doing something I should not be doing!!
Everyday you bring happiness to this little community, so I can only imagine the happiness you bring to your "real life friends"!
Fantastic Louise as always :o)
Great picture of two longtime friends!! That´s just so nice, to have friends for such a long time. like many have said already, it´s great your kids are friends too. What a wonderful life you have! And how nice to share it with us through your photos and stories!
I enjoy them so much!
What a lovely photo - lovely to hear that you have been friends all those years & that your children are friends too.
I spent today with my best friend who I met when I was 5 years old - it's so good to catch up - I know what you mean :D
Nice to meet up & remember good times.. (be careful driving on that beach many years ago Linda was learning to drive & i took her onto Southport beach UK ..( a few miles down the coast from Liverpool . & she sank my car .LOL we were stranded for about 4 hours, the tide which was low came in around us lucky we were on a sand bank.. Eventually we were rescued by a local chap in a 4 wheel drive land rover with the longest tow rope you have ever seen ...lol... Great story over a couple of drinks ... Your picture just reminded me of that day .. ((O:
Louise, thanks, as always, for your kind comments on my photo. Yes, it's hard to say goodbye to Ella and her parents each time they leave or I leave. They're coming to Denver for Christmas so I don't have to wait too long. When do you leave for SC? I know that will be hard, too. But I'm sure, knowing you, you have many friends in California that will be so glad you're back. :-)
How wonderful!! I have a few longtime friends who still live not far from me. It's nice to know that friendships can and do last a liftetime! I also have so many new friends that I've met recently through the Internet. And to think I used to be so afraid of it! I once told my daughter that I'd NEVER have Internet in our home. LOL, she still teases me about it today.
Loved the tiny glimpse into your life and your longstanding friendship. I can't imagine extending a friendship into the second generation. What a wonderful gift. This is a lovely picture -- both the setting and the people. Your happiness sparkles more than the water!
Just dropping in real quick. while on vacation this time here in Florida most time is spent outdoors..driving to different places..sightseeing...shopping...going to the beaches...so very little time spent inside the hotel. internet stinks here. 15 minutes free in a small room with 5 computers..always lineups... I guess your wonderful time in Lunenburg is coming to an end soon. loved looking at your pictures.
hi sisters!! (:
i love this shot louise, and even more i love the story of your friendship. what a blessing to have lifelong friends. i tell my boys that to have friends you have to BE a friend. and that's what you are. *big hug*
We both have friends we have known for much of our lives too but spread far and wide now although one of James good friends from when they first started school was already living here when we first got to Cambodia. It is the first time since school we all have lived in the same city for any length of time despite remaining in close contact for the last 20 years since B left school to join the army. He works for the UN now and has a wife and family. We were all here in Phnom Penh for a year before they moved on to Italy- where of course we had to go and see them last Christmas!
what a great photo and a great story of friendship! I still can't believe our connection -- or I should say, it makes perfect sense to me, and I think it's so awesome!
