Returning from a visit with friends this evening, we were taken by this sight of encroaching fog. All day people have been talking about the hurricane possibility, but I've watched no weather news. If it comes, it's not supposed to be until Saturday, so I expected no problem with our daughter & her family arriving from California/Chicago/Halifax late tonight... Well whoops...
Ashley called us at 8 to say the flight was cancelled...no, no luggage...no car seats for two little ones...might be Sunday night before they can get to Halifax... Bottom line, they had to rent a car + pay for car seats to get them to her sister's home for the night. Not sure what comes next as Tina's sister is supposed to arrive tomorrow & her baby is due any day now! It doesn't rain but it pours...literally, perhaps!
We're bummed to have to wait longer for the kids to arrive & their visit will be abbreviated, but I'm glad the girls can see each other before the baby is born. Their vacation ends in Chicago for a visit later this month, so they can do this all over again and meet the new family member, too!
Happy 4th to our fellow Americans! Our "celebration" will be on hold a few days...
(Thanks for bearing with me when I haven't had time to scroll through my home page and leave comments for everyone...I feel like I'm taking & not giving, but you know I'll make up for that, hopefully sooner than later!)
The sky does look like something could be on the horizon. Hopefully they can arrive soon without further issues. Enjoy your visit and Happy 4th to you as well
A beautiful capture of this nice country and that great dramatic sky and beautiful light. Fav. May everything become great for you
Hope that hurricane don`t get to you. Stay save and take good care.
Have a nice fourth of July celebration .
@pyrrhula@chard@digitalrn@timandelke@snowy@scarybird thank you all! Ken and I spent the day doing some "fun shopping" and between showing his Ca driver's license and me in my blue-w-stars & red striped pocket shirt, we were wished a Happy 4th of July several times...very nice! The little cousins are having a great time together & the two sisters are so happy to have more time to share. How can we not be happy that it worked out, all in all. We may not see them before Monday, but we'll be patient. No storm here at all today...sunshine & breezes...go figure! It is what it is...and it's all a part of the story, right? Happy 4th to all of you, and to you non-American's, Happy 4th...and 5th and the rest of the weekend ;)
Wonderful moody shot Louise. I'm sitting here in Connecticut listening to the rain as we speak. I hope you come through the storm with flying colors! Stay safe, and you're family too. Happy 4th.
@dgrynn Hi Deb! I'd heard this morning that the storm was over NC where we have friends...then thought of you in CT and Holly (365) in Lunenburg, MA! I've yet to catch any news about it, but folks here aren't too worried this time. We'll work around the house and enjoy the experience when it passes by..."listening to rain" sounds lovely! (Too late now, but it would have been fun to have a "Storm Watch" thread on 365 and let people along the way leave notes and pictures! (Maybe they have...will go see what you've posted!) Happy 4th!
@Weezilou it was pretty uneventful around here today except for the rain this afternoon. Those poor people in the Outer Banks I feel for. We've been renting a house every spring for the past 6 years and fell in love with the peacefulness and beauty of it. Each storm that hits that area takes a little more away from it. One day, it will vanish into the sea. Stay safe.
@dgrynn Who do you follow in that area (or perhaps you have friends there year round...) There used to be a member of 365 who posted wonderful photos from there, but I don't recall her name. It was how I came to learn of that area for the first time. I hope your friends have weathered it there. Maybe they feel they want the life experience living there for as long as it lasts... Thanks for being in touch...I always enjoy your notes!
@Weezilou we have met a few year rounders over the years we've been vacationing there, particularly in Salvo on Hatteras Island. They are hearty souls. Greg and I had talked about buying a house there but vetoed the idea pretty quickly. I couldn't stand to have my house washed out to sea.
I should search 365 and see if I can't find anyone down there.
Looks like you're in for a bit of weather. Batten down the hatches? Great capture of the impending fog. Sorry to hear of all your family's travel hassles and hope all well now.
@lyndemc Thank you Denise! Catching a few computer minutes while the power is back again (after two several-hour outings!) Just as well the boys are in Chicago, visiting Hancock Tower & the zoo, we're told... Ash+All stayed with her sister & family on night one; had a great time. After that, John's aunt & Uncle offered their home while they're away this month... All's good...how nice they ended up in Chicago where they lived & know so many people! Thanks for the good thoughts ♥
Hope that hurricane don`t get to you. Stay save and take good care.
