This is my favorite week of the year to visit our family! It's Parents' Weekend at this school where son-in-law John is the music director, and this year's musical performance is "Singing in the Rain", which will be performed on three evenings. From both John and the choral-&-stage director I've been hearing such enthusiasm about the performances and the pit musicians, I couldn't wait to see it. On my own I walked over to the theater here on campus and settled in for an absolutely delightful, music-filled 2-hour show! I had no sense that I was watching high school students; they were spectacular! There was a stage-filled tap-dance number that I loved, the singing was excellent, and the Gene Kelly number was spot on in every movement by the star of the show.
And what about the rain? It was the real deal! It rained on stage throughout that dance number! Love it? I'll say I did!
Fantastic composiition and sounds like a great show!! I loved watching that show when I was much younger!! Glad you had such a good time and will again and again!! FAV!
@cashew Thank you Kathy! I think my family members, while happy I enjoyed it so much, were happier still when I stopped regaling them ad nauseum and turned to telling my followers about it! You're always the most delightful of cheerleaders!
@kelly2 Thanks, Irene! Funny you should make that comment! I chatten for some time before the show with the director, the choral teacher here, and asked where they'd come up with all the sets and costumes. She said they'd gone to many sources to beg and borrow, and had spent about $5000 on eBay where they found a number of the props! It really was wonderful and I was in attendance again last night with a slight alteration in starring roles (so as to give more students an opportunity to shine). It was just great!
That would be great to see. I'm sure those students did a very good job. I had the opportunity as a producer to televise a student Jazz concert a couple years in a row. They were accomplished musicians and am sure some have bright futures in music and stage.
@ceilidh I loved your comment, Margaret! You would have quite enjoyed the show! There were at least 3 tap dance numbers with the girls in peach-coloured tiered dresses that moved fabulously as they tapped and spun! (One I remember was "All I do the Whole Night Through is Dream of You"... Another was more of a soft shoe to "Beautiful Girls". ...yes, I did attend all three performances!) As for your talented grandson, aren't the Irish known for their amazing tenors?
