Truly, Ken and I were so happy to see him again! He'd come by every night between 8:15 and 8:45 and then he disappeared... After a week I said to Ken that I thought someone may have trapped him and removed him from the neighborhood.
When he appeared last night , we only hoped it was him... We opened the door and he came running over! It was Marshmallow! Time for another flip-book .gif movie for my album and to share with you who don't have raccoons.
Note how they don't take food with their mouths, even when eating from a dish. They use their paws, and they don't grab.
Oh how wonderful to see Marshmallow again! I love the way he gently takes the food from Ken with his paw. Such good manners! Great film - thanks for sharing these magic moments with us! Fav!
@koalagardens Since we feed several cats in the yard, there are plates for kibble and even tonight, leftover hamburger (mince, I think it's called in OZ). When we've seen he's eaten, we give him some marshmallow treats. I only learned that they like them when I read about someone else doing that on 365! We only give no more than 3-4 per evening... I realize it's not natural food for them, but they're scavengers and will go after anything they can find available.
@pamknowler I knew you'd like to see this...tell your sister Ken and I say Hi!
@gilbertwood Your possums are so gorgeous there! I guess everyone who follows me knows how much I love animals, so it's such a pleasure to commune with "a wild one"!
so gorgeous to see Marshmallow take the food from Ken's hand. Having raised a possom that fell from its mothers pouich I know just how magical it is to befriend a wild animal.
It's so tough when we make friends with them and then they don't show up- what a relief to see him or her again. Very adorable! We have some that come around for the cat food we leave out for Richard Parker.
This is just adorable, Louise! Marshmallow is certainly a cutie! I must learn how to make these flip-book .gif movies. Another demo I'd like to request from the pro! :-)
I can't believe you've tamed a raccoon! I'm impressed that Ken would get that close to him, but clearly, he's a little gentleman (the raccoon, though probably Ken too). Very cute!
WOW...this is so cool. We have one in our backyard that we are trying to relocate....because we have Charlie and know that there could be problems if they meet up in the middle of the night. We have had some fun experiences with them however...when we were camping once. Fun video. Thanks for sharing
@nickspicsnz@pyrrhula Thanks for liking this! I love that a GIF series of photos can capture the fun of active little creatures in the yard... Both a nice way to share with everyone and save the delight of the moment for myself as well!
@cruiser@taffy Taffy, see Chris's comment, too! I think everything in life is a trade-off... You get the sensational and widely varied big-city photos, but you're not living close to the ground where the wild-life is!
@joysfocus@digitalrn I spend a lot of time "observing" first before trying to touch any animal. I've been bitten by a cats (a number of times) and raccoons (never)! Cat's lead with their teeth, and raccoons will take food from your hands with their little paws (that don't scratch...but squirrels have sharp nails that can scratch). I suppose I'm "a cautious risk-taker" so as to enjoy these special moments!
@teikoDoes anyone have a cooler name for their cat than you do?!!!
@gaylewood Gayle, these "little movie clips" are super easy! Does you camera take multiple burst shots? Look for a moving object you'd like to capture and take a series of bursts (I take all I can as it gives me something to choose from). On the Internet, I downloaded PhotoScape for free (and I'm still finding cool things it will do!) as one of the items it will do is to make GIF images. Just load your pictures into it, and depending on how many you want to save, you may need to select a smaller size to view it, SAVE...and that's it! CHeck it out and see if you don't agree that there's really nothing to making them!
@shepherdmanswife@dishaparekh176@fjmom Thanks for enjoying this and making Marshmallow feel welcomed back! Stay tuned...you're likely to see him again someday!
@Weezilou Louise, thank you so much for the info! I will definitely download Photoscape and give it a try! I have to make an unexpected road trip to Canada to help my mother-in-law with some health issues so I will be on the lookout for some moving subjects and give this a try. I just love trying out new things like this. Thanks again! :-)
@sailingmusic I've fed raccoons in my yards here in Cal and in NS...they draw the item from your hands with their paws...nowhere near the teeth. If there was news of a rabies outbreak anywhere near where I lived, I'd stop this altogether. I'd also consider the demeanor of the animal. I've never lived my life being scared nor overly concerned regarding much of anything, and I've not missed many of life's small pleasures.
@gilbertwood Your possums are so gorgeous there! I guess everyone who follows me knows how much I love animals, so it's such a pleasure to commune with "a wild one"!
Thank you BOTH for the faves!

@365projectlinda @eyesmile I do think raccoons and dogs don't mix well...both want to be Alpha!
@tunia @eyesmile @photographycrazy Too irresistible (to me, anyway) not to capture the moment! Thanks for liking this!
