Future City Planner, Perhaps ... by Weezilou

Future City Planner, Perhaps ...

Our grandsons were with us most of two weeks, so it's fitting they should be in some of my photos, and it's also the reason why I'm late in posting said photos!

As soon as Ashton runs inside, he begins unpacking his roads and rails, trucks and trains and the building begins! (Dylan, on the other hand, is all about his "people"...) We push the furniture aside, and he takes over the living room with his extensive layouts!

My dad, (his great grand-father) was a Civil Engineer, a City Engineer and later, The Director of Public Works, even designing an expressway and the means for more efficient garbage removal (in Tucson, Arizona, back in the 60s). He's got the genetic chops if he wishes to take it any further in that direction!

It's always interesting to speculate!
Adorable memory! I have similar activities, my grandson is also a thoughtful builder. It's delightful to watch and wonder what they will become as they grow up.

Fav. Great portrait of your grandson.
Families and inherited traits are so interesting to study.

@fjmom Carol, I gather your grandson may be about the same age (5, in Ashton's case). With grandchildren, more than my own, I'm more aware of what *they* find interesting to pursue, whereas I tended to direct my daughters toward what I thought would be of interest to them.

@veengupta Thanks so much, Veena! He's not always agreeable to letting me photograph him, but I think he was pleased I was taking an interest in his construction site! I certainly agree that it's such fun to be an observer of the grandchildren and hope I'm around to see them grow up!

My grandson Alex and Ashton would work so well together :) Alex spend so much of his day doing this - and he is just 4 :)

OH, does that scene look familiar! Although my boys always seemed to think it was MY job to lay out the tracks (future politicians? ;) They never quite figured out that they could do it sooner and more often if they didn't have to wait for me... Sadly, they are all past the train building stage - I probably miss it more than they do at this point. Thanks for the trip down memory lane. Enjoy! :)

@Weezilou Yes, my grandson is close in age to Ashton, he is 6. I agree, I think also that I pay more attention to their interests, possibly for a way to connect with them.

@fjmom As I read this I was thinking you'd already commented, but it was Denise @gilbertwood who has the 4 y-o grandson! What a delight it is to oversee activities like this, fully realizing there's a common mindset in these little ones, raised on Thomas the Train and Cars, The Movie! Holly @hbdaly your turn lies down the road when all this will happen again for you! But to all of you, what I find amazing from this "older" perspective, is the astounding accomplishments a youngster can have...an aspiring gymnast, an Eagle Scout, a pianist, an artist...when only a few years prior, they'd just emerged from the womb! It's truly stunning to me how many gifted youngsters can attain so much with personal desire and helpful parenting! We look upon the "seeds of possibility" at 4, 5 and 6 and wonder where it may head! Holly, I love reading about your boys, and your delightful way of telling their story (and yours...often with a sense of, shall we say, astonishment?!) Thank you all for sharing!

@quietpurplehaze @bkbinthecity Hazel, we have those superb toy manufacturers for making children's cities so colourful! Don't you imagine it's part of the reason we parents & grandparents are sucked into buying them as well?! And Brian, indeed, he has fun...completely absorbed!
@chard "The Big Boys" was called into service, digging out that old wood clamp of Ken's father... It's still good for holding up bridges, don'cha know!
