Before there was The Little Mermaid and the girls from Frozen and the Disney princesses and tulle skirts for daytime wear, there was this demure little Prairie lass. For my daughters, I'd made this dress in the mid-70s, and now it fits Hazel. I'd been designing children's dresses in Dallas, and Heather loved the clothes, even as a child. I'd packed them away, hoping another little girl might wear them someday. They were timeless back then, and I love seeing Hazel wearing them all these years later.
I'd made another of these dresses for my neighbor's daughter, Amber (who raised two boys). Her mom, my friend, Barbara, will be as silly-in-love with this picture of Hazel as I am!
oh my - firstly, what a gorgeous dress - you are very clever Louise
secondly, I remember Hollie Hobbie - I used to draw her all the time when was a kid - what a memory
This is such a gorgeous portrait of Hazel! What a cute little darling she is! I love the dress - of course I am not surprised you were designing children's dresses - another one of your talents! Maybe you could run up a little number for me next week? Lol! That would be a challenge for your designing talents! Lol! A beautiful image which deserves to be framed! Fav!
Ah yes, my daughter was HH for Halloween one year, and I made her outfit, including the bonnet. Do you know we actually have picture books in our school library "written by" Hollie Hobbie? This picture, with its very natural pose, is adorable. What a keepsake!
Hi, Louise! I have friends visiting Lunenburg and that made me think of you. I haven't been on 365 for a long time and am pleased to see you still here! I hope you are doing well and also that you still have your home in Nova Scotia! Sending you hugs! Suzie
Hi? Suzie! I'm sitting in the Boston airport waiting to board our flight to Halifax! We're on our way for another summer! I just heard from Linda boysami... wasn't she a friend of yours? Still here and loving this community! Drop by when I'm in a better place to write more!
Louise, you are a special gift to 365! Everyone is lucky to have you here. Enjoy your summer in one of my favorite places! (yes, Linda is one of my best friends ever!)
@stownsend what an amazing way to start the day Suzie! FYI we have arrived and I'm sitting in the living room. Your words are so sweet and very touching bringing both the smile and and a tear! Please, welcome back anytime! Xo♥
