(Conjuring Elvis to sing in the background for us!)
Ken was done with his meeting at noon, so I asked that our first stop be at the La Jolla (pronounced Hoy-Ya) Cove. The sidewalk at the top of the cliffs looks down on colonies of pelicans, cormorants, some seagulls and seals. There's also a gorgeous little beach, and even on this cool day, there were some who ventured into the water.
After a couple of hours and a pleasant walk, we drove over to the (world famous) San Diego Zoo. We got to see tigers, a mother and 6 mo old hippo, and at least a year's worth of Friday flamingos, but here was the zoo's star! I saw the pandas when they first arrived (years ago), and at that time, to keep the crowds flowing through, there was a moving side walk. Today's wait was no more than 15 minutes, and no one rushed anyone along. What a thrill to see this exquisite and rare creature so close!
I heard someone say, "I hear someone taking a lot of photos!" to which I replied without turning around, "Damn straight! I've waited a long time for this!" It was so worth it!
(If the encounter hadn't been so relaxed and charming, an alternate title could have been "Panda-monium"...but today it was just the excitement inside my head!
We're going back when the zoo opens tomorrow...we barely scratched the surface of all there is to see!
What a beautiful capture of this gorgeous rare animal! I have never seen one and am so jealous! I love them! Sounds like a great day and so many photo opportunities- fabulous! I laughed at your reply to that comment! How funny! If I’d been there I would have introduced you as the famous Photographer Louise who just takes a few shots here and there! Lol! Enjoy your morning visit - I wish I could be there with you! Fav!
What a terrific capture to cap off your great day! They are sooo adorable :) I have seen them in the Adelaide Zoo (Sth Aust) but this reminds me it's time to go back :) fav
How brilliant that they were not rushing you along. Funny comment! Love pandas - amazingly beautiful creatures. What a treat to see one so up close and personal.
This Panda looks so content and relaxed! Looks like its saying "this isn't such a bad place to live! The weather is great in San Diego!" Nice capture and what a fun day!
