We went on a jeep tour today, just the four of us with a driver, and, sitting in the front seat, I had time to ask questions and get lots of information! At the top of the hill is the original Wriggly mansion... "Wriggly", as in the man who gave us packs of chewing gum in wrappers, who bought the island of Catalina, built a tower in Chicago and owned the Chicago Cubs baseball team. This home is now a B&B, but there are other homes on the island owned by the descendants.
Along the drive were beautiful vistas and we even came across about 25 buffalo that live on the island. They were initially brought over for a movie in the early part of the century, and with permission, they were left. (That, in itself is a long and interesting story!)
We filled our hours with interesting tours, and we were all left wishing to return soon!
Wonderful landscape! I love the story of the Wriggly mansion. Wow he made a lot of money from the chewing gum! I must find out more about him. This tour sounds perfect! Fav!
Family visited the Wrigley mansion last year. They said the bathroom wallpaper was made of the foil gum wrappers, that Mr Wrigley wanted his children to always remember what gum had done for them. This is a glorious photo, so many fabulous homes, oh my!
