As something of an observer, I was so enjoying the hour that led up to this picture! Jake was a former student of SIL John, and home on Spring Break from college, he and a girlfriend dropped by to visit. Ashton was delighted to see Jake, as, before he left, he'd been teaching Ashton to surf! I'm sure, in our childhood, many of us had someone special who took the time to treat us like a peer, and we have fond memories of those people. Jake was a day student from nearby, so while John was asking all about Jake's studies "in far-away Maine", Ashton wanted to talk about the next time they could go surfing together!
It was happenstance that I caught Jake in this photo with Ashton, but my daughter loved it, and I must get it sent soon to her and to Jake as well!
What a beautiful portrait. It’s so wonderful when a former student takes the time to visit, it really speaks to the influence teachers have and really how important they are in a young person’s life. Ashton is such a cutie, oh my!
