We'd gone to dinner with a small circle of friends, but before leaving home, I checked the time of the sunset. We'd finished eating and everyone was sitting and talking when I excused myself to run out for some photos. I'm never the one at the table checking my cell phone or turning it on to share pictures, so I allow myself this brief absence now and then! No one asked to see what I'd taken, but I got a lot of beautiful images with birds flying past the sun as it sank behind a fog bank. I'm so grateful for this community where we share a passion for images and photography. Not everyone I know appears all that interested...and I never push my photos at anyone who doesn't ask to see them... Look at what they missed...twice!
Ooooooh I love this! The sun is so big and round. I can’t pass up a sunset. I am always the one stopping whatever I’m doing and chasing after that perfect capture. I totally understand, Louise.
@suelbiz47 This will happen only a certain number of times in my life, and I'd like to be on the scene and appreciate them as often as possible! Thanks, Sue! Wishing you many beautiful captures!
@stray_shooter Ahhh...Detective Ron on the job! Well deduced, Sir! (I'd rather see those rigs than the awful wind turbines! Cool that you've been out there on them! A story for another day!)
Stunning shot and fav. I know what you mean. i went to south Africa last May and my husband hasn't even looked at my photos! But I have even been with other photographers and I take a shot that they don't see until they see my print later. And go, "oh, I didn't see that"
Breathtaking Louise! I am so pleased you took this moment to get outside and capture this! Non photographers just do not understand and how much beauty do they miss! Thanks for sharing this fabulous sunset! Are they oil rigs just off the coast? Very interesting! Fav of course!
What a wonderful sight!
I'm quite often surprised that some people just don't seem interested in what's around them, never mind taking photographs of it! But I guess that everyone is different :)
This is so beautiful, Louise. To be honest, I thought Ron had been to the beach at sunset again when I saw the photo before I scrolled down and saw your name. Our friends don’t know what they are missing not being on 365, it’s a place of real treasures - stunning photographs and the artists who create them. Your California sunsets are magical, truly.
This is so beautiful and I am glad for both of us that you got to see it and capture it for us! No, "other" people do not appreciate us taking pictures all of the time. I get teased for it and they kind of make fun of me. My new walking partner is trying to be tolerant! Have a great day!
A beautiful sunset shot Louise. I head to the beach whenever I can for sunset shots, but lately I seem to have developed the knack of picking the wrong days :)
Incredible shot Louise, your friends don't know what they missed. The colours are so rich and the darker silhouettes of the oil-rigs and a chair (?) set the scene for an amazing shot. Oh, and the birds too, of course.
@golftragic Thank you Marnie! Much appreciated high praise! That "chair" is the life-guard housing. The oil rigs are much less noticeable on a sunny blue day...they really stood out in a sunset! I kept walking own the pier trying to situate myself where the sun wouldn't be behind the rig! Effort in futility! I think it was mathematically impossible!
@Weezilou I really do think this is a fabulous shot Louise. As for the sun, we can never win there, as you say the maths are hopeless. Those rigs look like they're quite close to shore or is that just an optical illusion.
@golftragic That truly has to be an optical illusion! We're down there often and I've never seen them look like that! I'll ferret out an older photo/daytime shot!
I understand your description quite well. Photographers are sometimes lonely...
