The Language of Flowers by Weezilou

The Language of Flowers

I'm so happy I've found a way to incorporate text from my collection of letters and ephemera... I feel as though I'm able to return to doing the sort of collage work I used to do in years past. It will take awhile, but I can see the possibilities ahead.

I was able to leave the tutorial and add some of my own layers, then return to the tutorial to finalize the lot. This image has four layers of textures, some in collage fashion.

The photo was taken in Balboa Park, San Diego, February 24.

The textures are some I downloaded and, the old envelope, one I photographed.
This is lovely! What tutorial are you using?

Lovely editing. Makes me want to play with textures again. Been awhile since I have done that.

@lindasees Thanks Linda! I found this tutorial https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=54hEQ62wHSw and while it has many steps, I find the whole process so relaxing. This is the third I've done, and I'm going to have to try not to fill my album with them!

@kaldara Send me a link or two to ones you've done (assuming you posted them). I love making my own greeting cards to write letters to friends, and these will be fun to print on them...

@pyrrhula haha...truly, working on these are the most relaxing time in my day! I could ask the same question of you when you carve birds sitting in a lacy tree! It's all about the process, isn't it? IF I really had the time, I'd work on these all day!

I'm loving seeing your work with writing as texture in your shots. This is wonderful! :)

@voiceprintz Thank you, JT! I just sent out a call to some friends in Nova Scotia whose families have lived there a number of generations. I thought perhaps some of them might have text that would be meaningful to that area, and I'll do some additional work like this in the summer when we're there. (I've gotten several replies in the positive already, and one even has an old hotel registry from Mahone Bay! Now THAT might be very cool!)

@Weezilou I know there are handwritten documents in my family that date back several generations including a "sign in" registry from annual family reunions kept in an old ledger. Prob is I'm the black sheep and there's no way I'd ever be allowed to grab shots or scans of the documents. I love your idea. I bet that's a project that will keep you busy when you get back to NS!!

@voiceprintz From one black sheep to another, don't feel badly...well, I did for a long time, but I rebuilt a new life... My grandmother left me a photo album, but my mother wrote me out completely... As the saying goes, "living well is the best revenge"... And so I look to friends...the images don't *have to be* family history... Just build something that pleases you... Your friends will acknowledge it...and you can smile...♥

@Weezilou I'm part of a flock of black sheep. We herd together well and have built a present that is rich, full, and consists of wonderful ppl for whom I care deeply and rejoice in their reciprocity. Thank you for your words. Always great to find another sheep in the flock!

@voiceprintz yep...all of you..."living well"... The past...there's no explaining it sometimes... moving on and thanks for drawing me into the flock! xox

Louise, these textured images are so pretty. They make me want to dabble in the art form myself.

Your idea of putting a bowl of water in the freezer in the hopes of getting a unique ice pattern is a good one. I imagine there'd be something photographable in no time.

This is amazing Louise. I so admire people who can process like this.
