the bottle house

One of those quirky travel finds…this is the Bottle House in Kaleva, Michigan (population 507). Built by John Makinen in 1941. He was a Finnish immigrant to Michigan. He owned a bottling company and the house is built with over 60,000 glass bottles laid on their side with bottoms to the exterior.
Wow!! What an amazing find- and quite the architectural feat!

Oh, there's something like this in Houston, but I think it might be beer cans! What a fabulous idea. Is it still lived in?
