Ann's Street Scene

Here's my rendition of Ann's lovely street scene. This is the third attempt.... I like it better as a photo......

Ellen
@theredcamera amazing angles and you even got the window reflections perfectly! This is so well done Ellen

@grammyn Ah, you're so kind Katy! Each exercise is a learning tool.

Here there is something wrong with the perspective of the two buildings.
Buuut... the colours are so vibrant, and the left hand building is soooo well done: with the decluttered balcony and the suggestion of brickwork. And the shading throughout the entire piece is so fine!!!
Great work!

When you showed us the photo I was struck by the angles and perspective, which looked odd. So to get the looking up point of view here must have been so difficult, and it's spot on on the right hand building. This looks as if you had fun painting it,the loose paint strokes and just look at that sky!!

@theredcamera The perspective of your buildings is not the same as the original photo.
But you did a very nice aquarel so well done!

It’s good to have the photo as a guideline but nice to see your own touch.

@monikozi Yes, the angle of the bay windows was quite challenging. I drew the image twice with pencil and ruler and couldn't quite get it right. This one I just "drew" with the paint brush and knew I'd end up with a "cartoon/illustration" piece. Thanks for your nice feed back on the shading and details.

@30pics4jackiesdiamond I for sure learned a lot on this one! I drew it twice trying to get the perspective right, I may have achieved the perspective in one of them and then mussed up the painting part! I was struck by the strong colors and angles in the photo. I so appreciate your positive critique.

@wakelys Yes, interpretation is a unique thing.

@theredcamera you are very bold. I do all the pieces in pencil first, and only afterwards in ink. And even so, i get wonky lines and wrong perspectives. I dream of the time when I'll be confident enough to try ink directly.
Perhaps one day.

I can see where this would be a challenge- even as a photo it was tricky getting the lines of the buildings and windows straight. But I think you did a wonderful job and I like the "illustration" feel of your watercolor. Beautiful!

Very nicely done. I'm not always convinced that one should be comparing one's artwork to the photo. Mostly when someone else is looking at your art they don't have the reference photo to compare the picture with. @theredcamera
