We drove through some beautifully wild countryside to one of the Cobscook Trails, Morong Cove this afternoon. It was a short but beautiful trail with forest paths, huge ledges overlooking the cove and only the sounds of our footstep, and red squirrels. The tide was very high and the reflections of the golden leaves on the water were a seasonal gift to the senses.
We walked back to where we parked, drove further down the road and explored another area at Huckins Beach. There were so many apple trees, the ground and shoreline were dotted with fallen fruit. I have tasted lots of apples from numerous trees in the wild, all have been mealy, or too tart with tough skin. I picked one, small, yellow and green with a bit of red streaking, from a tree by the car and tried it. It was delicious, we each enjoyed one on our walk down to the beach. Unfortunately, the nasty mosquitoes greeted us and shortened our stay.
When we were in Lubec yesterday we noticed a sign on one of our favorite restaurants, announcing that admittance to dine required vaccination cards. So cards in hand today, we enjoyed a salmon burger and the view of the Lubec shore line from a window table. We felt very safe.
Today was our first cloudy day since arriving, but that didn't make the foliage or the day any less beautiful. We even had a pink sunset as we left Lubec for home.
For the Record,
This day came in cloudy, but lovely just the same.
