When were on our way home tonight, it was nearly low tide on the Machias River, by the Rim Bridge, under a waxing crescent moon. T pulled the car over just before the bridge and we walked down close to the shore. It was absolutely silent, so peaceful, so lovely.
We had beautiful weather again and drove to Lubec on the "Dixie" Road instead of Rt 1, the foliage was brighter along this less traveled road, more maple, aspen and birch trees rather that the pine and spruce along that section of Rt.1. We stopped at Bog Brook Preserve, Moose Cove in Cutler to take in the view of Grand Manan Island, NB, Canada across the channel.
Grand Manan is governed as a village and is part of the province of New Brunswick. The point on the mainland closest to the island is near the town of Lubec, Maine, the easternmost point of the continental United States, 15 km (9.3 mi) across the Grand Manan Channel.
We have visited the island twice via Ferry, and I have ancestors who were born there. It is said that it looks like a blue Biscuit floating on the ocean. It did indeed today. You can see one end of it in the extra. It's also visible from West Quoddy Light in South Lubec. We were headed there to look at the bog in October. BUT, there was a giant tour bus near the parking lot and we decided to avoid the crowds and make our pilgrimage another day. We never come downeast without visiting West Quoddy light, the red and white striped lighthouse.

@joansmor We adore Campobello, but have not gone this season. It was closed to us in July and now you have to take a cover test to go over. We decided to wait until next summer.
