There is a business here in our community called Dixon Melons and they are so yummy that folks know about them in somewhat far flung MT towns. The season is over but the melon fields still attract (and provide) for bears some tasty snacks. We have seen this black bear there numerous times. On this day, I finally had my 600mm lens with me and got this shot.
Yep! We've heard that a few bears have even been seen much closer to us here in our tiny town. The elementary school put out a warning/reminder to parents to be sure their older kids knew what to do if they see a bear. They also advised walking or driving the younger ones to the school. We decided we should put all our many pumpkins harvested from the garden into a shed for safekeeping so any bears wouldn't be tempted to come onto our back deck!!
