Today we continue on our stroll through the five parks named in honour of the Famous Five. Today we cross the bridge from yesterdays park as we make our way to Louise McKinney Riverfron Park. This park is located directly across from the lower level of the Shaw Conference Centre. As we come off of the bridge we can walk along the sidewalk that makes its way beside the North Saskatchewan River. We then go up a few stairs and make our way towards the conference centre taking in a wonderful shot of the downtown skyline Here you can catch a glimpse of the Hotel MacDonald and the Telus Towers behind it.
Louise McKinney was one of two women first elected to the Alberta Legislature as well as a legislature in Canada and the British Empire in 1917. She introduced legislation to help people with disabilities, immigrants, widows and seperated wives.
In 1925 she was instrumental in helping to form the United Church of Canada
I like how you did this bkb ...im thinking of doing a collage tonight and see how it comes out ! you do a great job of taking the pics and giving us a great discription of the history behind them! Thanks for sharing!
I love the way you're investigating the women who helped shape and mold Canada. While Boston itself doesn't have parks in their honor, we do have lots of monuments to American women who help get the right to vote, helped in the Underground Railroad, and others who were great literary masters. I might copy your idea and do an American version! :)
Louise Mckinny was a very famous lady who did so much for the women of Canada.. your collage of the Riverfront Park is great.love all the picture in it.
