Today our stroll through the parks named in honour of the Famous Five with a stop at Nellie McClung Park. From yesterday's park we walk across the Low Level Bridge and as we make our way up Scona Road we find the park.
This park is a little on the small side but it does offer a nice view of the city. I have also included a couple of other photos today that are in a different part of the city.
Located in the Oliver district is the Victoria Promenade which is home to this bust of Nellie McClung. It is here due to the fact that this was the area where Mrs McClung lived while in Edmonton. A couple of blocks away is the house where she lived while in Edmonton.
Nellie McClung was born in 1873 in Chatsworth ON and died in 1951 in Victoria BC She was elected to the Alberta Legislature Assembly in 1921 where she introduced legislation dealing with factory safety, old age pensions and public health nursing services. She was also a newspaper columnist and a published author
Tomorrow we stop off in a little park that is hidden away in a nice little river valley neighborhood.
Have a great weekend everyone
Another woman who made a difference! She looks and sounds like a very determined woman who was not afraid to speak or write about how she felt on important issues. Lovely collage!
I love that these awe-inspiring women were not forgotten. I cannot imagine thier challenges to making a difference back in the day. Another great collage and story. Thank you.
How amazing that back in those days, she campaigned for so many causes that worked. I can see why these lovely memorials were created. Your collage is wonderful, providing a variety of interesting scenes.
