Continuing with the tour of the Hotel MacDonald. This is inside the Empire Ballroom. Our tour guide explained to us that when the hotel first opened they had an orchestra that would play for special functions. The interesting thing was where they were located. The arches up top used to be open and the orchestra would be located up there out of sight. So people would hear the music and at the same time have ample room for the grand waltzes that would take place in this room.
Nice pov and an interesting and attractive room. I wonder if it was cramped up there for the musicians? Is music still performed in this room, do you know?
Such beautiful architectural detail, and what an incredible history to this ballroom. Wouldn't it have been neat to see and hear the orchestra back in the day? Such a historical capture, and lovely narrative.
Wow- that's cool, and it must also mean that this ceiling is rather tall for an orchestra to have enough room behind those arches! It must have been like a fairy tale for the dancers.
