An annual event every Labour Day Weekend is the Edmonton Symphony's Symphony under the Stars. It is always held at Hawrelak Park. However this year with Edmonton hosting the ITU World Triathlon there was a change made.
This year with the help of the City of Edmonton and ATB Financial the event was moved to Churchill Square. and called the Symphony in the City. It is a three day event with all of the concerts free admission. I surprised Melody by taking her down here. It was an amazing event. The ESO were playing music from Disney Classic Movies over the years. So while the orchestra played they showed scenes from the movies on the giant screen and they had three incredible vocalists to perform the songs.
The night we were there the attendance was just over an estimated 13,000 people.
It finished off with a rendition of It's A Small World After All and then they had fireworks to complete the evening
What a great event to offer the public. And quite a turnout. I just realized one of my friends ran/swam/biked in the triathlon in Edmonton. She had posted photos on Facebook of the event as well.
@mcmary Mary they do have a small section with concrete steps to sit on but otherwise you need to bring your own chairs. The volunteers and security did an amazing job keeping every thing nice and orderly
Wow. That's a massive crowd. What a great tradition for Labor Day. I would have loved to have seen that. I'd have had to be up front where I could sit down though. Nice shot.
@prttblues Most of the people were sitting as you bring your own chairs. If you are on Facebook Bev look us up at Melody-Brian Bigam and you can see a video of the final song and fireworks
