A Tale of Two Cities.
Well I think no matter where you live you will find rivalries that exist between cities. Here in Alberta there has been a huge rivalry between Edmonton and Calgary going on since Alberta became a province. This rivalry has also been seen between the respective sports teams.
I took this picture in the Sports Hall of Fame. It shows the Edmonton Eskimos celebrating a League Championship Grey Cup win.
This takes me to another tale of the city. This one dates back to November of 1913 when Edmonton and Calgary were to meet in the provincial championship game. The rivalry was so intense that neither team would play the game in the other teams city. So it was decided that the game would be played in a neutral location. The city of Red Deer was chosen as it sits in the middle between the two cities.
So with that decided the next decision was to find some one to referee the game. Once again neither team trusted one another so the choice was made to find someone who would be unbiased and totally trust worthy. So the call went out to the Reverend Bob Pearson.
The day arrived and both teams arrived and the game went ahead. The final result I can proudly say was a victory for the Edmonton team.
In the next couple of weeks the current Edmonton Eskimo team will host a semi-final playoff game and if they win they will face their arch enemies the Calgary Stampeders down in Calgary with the winner of that game playing in the league championship
If there is no rivalry there is no competition. So rivalry is good as long as it does not get out of hand. Love your narrative and glad everything went well in the end. Good luck for the next match. Beautiful shot.
I am a soccer fan too, but I definitely know what kind of rivalry you're talking about... My team, Barcelona, has one with Madrid and it's kind of same :D My own town is too small to have a rival haha ^^
Assume from other comments it is American Football??
We have our own rivalry here with Stoke City and Port Vale, but its been a while since we last met, due to a change in fortunes for both clubs, Leaving us now a couple of divisions apart
