The past two days have been quite an experience. Many of you know that for the past 3 years Melody and I have volunteered at the Marketplace Chapel in West Edmonton Mall.
The chapel has existed for 30 years. Tonight it will close its doors. However, the good news is that one of the larger churches in the city will be taking over the day to day operaton of it. Starting with a complete renovation over the next two months. It will reopen in early October.
The bottom picture was taken on Thursday when 7 of the volunteers took time to pose for a picture. As you can see between them 136 years of service.
The top picture was tonight as many people gathered one last time to share stories, enjoy good food and look foward to a new and exciting future
I had a small church close after we had attended for decades. It's a mixed emotional time for sure, and our chapel is now a bed and breakfast. I am glad you took pictures, I wish I had.
Lovely pics of the final week - I'm sure it has contributed so much to its community. Good news to hear that it will continue its work into the future too.
Will you and Melody be ministering in the new location? I'm glad it's not closed for good. This was a good way to finish up the "first" chapter. Now on to Chapter Two.
@skstein Sandy the chapel is a spot in a very busy mall that allows people to come in who may need a few moments of peace and quiet. Some people come in looking for someone to talk to or they are in need of prayer. It also has a Sunday service available for people in the mall or even visitors who may be staying at the hotel. Melody and I also take time to visit the stores and talk with people who mau not have tbe time to get to the chapel
Great capture of this historic event. So glad to here WECA is helping to renovate the area so this ministry can still continue. I even remember volunteering there many years ago.
