Machinery

Part of the machinery on display at the recently reopened Museum of Technology in Cambridge. The museum is housed in the old sewage pumping station built in 1894. Rubbish from the Cambridge streets was collected and used as fuel in the boilers to raise steam to run the machines.Over the years two gas engines were installed and eventually an electric motor was used to extend the pumping capacity.
Nice shot of a centre lathe. If it had power I could make something on it!

@rjb71 Sorry Richard, I should have found out first what kind of machine it was! The museum was fascinating. It was powered by overhead belts. It was used by Cambridge University to make components for various projects.

Looks like an interesting place to visit. David, being an engineer, would really have fun here.

That is some machine. I lived a few blocks from a pumping station in New Orleans, but I never got inside to see what the machinery was like.

A man's museum! Think I'll find the coffee machine!

@maggiemae There wasn't a coffee shop! We had to use the nearby Tesco's supermarket coffee shop!
