Mercury v Jimmy

This was a statue on top of the house at Dyrham . Mercury the messenger & Roman god. Phil’s corps in the army, the royal corps of signals, had Mercury as their cap badge. Among the military This emblem was affectionately known as “Jimmy”. “ Legend” has it that the name was adopted from a successful corps boxer, named Jimmy Emblem. It was said that “ Jimmy is our Emblem”. The emblem is still referred to as “Jimmy” today. So with that connection we had to have a picture of this statue!
