We visited the Lincolnshire Aviation Heritage Museum, for the first time today. This Avro Lancaster bomber plane from WW2, has been restored to the point that it can taxi, but not actually take off ( not sure why) , but I think that is the end ambition.More information can be read at the link below;
Was a fabulous visit. The Lancaster is certainly their pride and joy, but the most moving parts for me are the two huge remembrance plaques in the chapel and the small one commemorating the brother who had a premonition and hitched a ride to the airfield to see his brother the evening before he died in a raid over Berlin (that and sending Morse)
Nice Capture Carole. East Kirkby is one of my favourite places to visit. It’s well worth going when they are taxing Just Jane it always surprises me how close you can get to it. In essence Jane could fly but there are a lot of hurdles to overcome to get her to airworthiness that would satisfy the CAA. It may happen one day but it’s unlikely in the next few years. Totally agree with @phil_sandford comments regarding the Chapel.
Would love to see this…my sister has been & loved it all. Our dad was stationed in Lincolnshire during WW2, he was a navigator on the Lancaster Bomber… 9 Squadron.
@happypat how interesting Pat, I googled where 9 squadron were based during WW2 & it was RAF Bardney - long gone now, but Lincolnshire is littered with former RAF stations.
Beautiful capture. When i see something like this I start thinking about what stories it would say if it could talk. Sadly an aircraft so beautiful for its days was built to bomb and kill, very often, even innocent people.
