The challenge today is to show what I am doing this afternoon. I have Book Club tonight with a group of ladies that I particularly love. I have known a few of them for over 55 years - since we were little girls in Kindergarten and at church. I usually read my book much earlier in the month, but between the Olympics and the drama of Michael's move, I have been really busy.
I am reading "The Book Thief" by Markus Zusak on my iPad. It strikes me as a very apt title for the world around me. I don't really know, but I am guessing that not near as many books are printed today as they would have been 10 years ago. I often get a book on my iPad because it is so easy. Sometimes I buy them but often borrow a library book and have it delivered electronically and I know a lot of folks that are reading on one device or another. My son, the hopeful author that begins teaching an English 101 class next week at Northern Kentucky University, hopes that all of you will buy the printed word if and when one of his books reaches publication. I still read "books," but most often now I read on a device. It is easier, I read at night with no light on to wake Tom and I chose the size of the type!
And I recommend the book. It had a slow start but then caught my interest.
Hmmm Glad to see you say it had a slow start! I found it very slow and I think the book may now be hiding somewhere under my bed!
Perhaps I will try again!
I love the selected focus. I think whatever floats your boat really. E-readers are definitely a lot more convenient than paper books (I have all my books for studying on my kindle) but I do like the feel of a paper book tbh xx
Its a fabulous book....so much history, hope you enjoy it! Not my normal read but one of my daughters gave it to me to read!! Good to get out of one's comfort zones sometimes.......lovely focus !!
Tried reading e-books but, unlike @psychographer I found them inconvenient for the type of reading I like to do. I almost always borrow library books now because they are expensive in Australia but at least here authors are compensated annually for library borrowings of their books. I enjoyed this book too. Love your pic.
@cromwell You just made me spit all over the screen. I can just see us reading that one. @sarah19 Most of us liked it and two didn't..... @psychographer I like how light the iPad is versus a 800 page book. @calm I always have to have the next book lined up. @fannyb Wasn't my kind of book either but that is why book club is so much fun. I read a lot I might not pick on my own. @shannew I really liked it. It grew on me. @humphreyhippo I bet they do all over the world. @girlie I just love the weight difference. And I can get most library books on my iPad. @jayberg I'm sure you can get a paper back.
@henrir Thank you Henri. @tishpics I have never felt any different about the book on the iPad vs. printed. But my shoulders vote iPad. @sangwann I still love books. But I also have a great love affair with technology.
I haven't read this book, but I sure appreciate the recommendation. Wonderful shot. (I like them on the iPad simply because it's easier to take them on a plane--less weight.
So far I have not had the financial means to get anything electronic to read a book with (and I'm saving room on my computer for all those 365 shots!), so it's still the real thing for me when it comes to reading. Right now I'm reading a book about the expansion westward and all the river exploration that took place in the 1800's as a result of that. It's history, but in fiction form. Very interesting!

Amazon say they now sell more electronic than paper books in the UK.
