Ash Wednesday by cdonohoue

Ash Wednesday

It's not meant to be pretty for such a solemn day - but I have no idea why so many of you can take such great phone shots and I look like I'm in a line up. I just got back from church. It is Ash Wednesday and our Presbyterian congregation does the traditional imposition of the ashes. It is the beginning of our journey to Easter Sunday I hardly ever do selfies - but I had to for today. It is my journey.

If you want to see something pretty go to my alternate album to see my first ever snowflake. I'm pretty proud of that one.

Always brave to take a selfie. Braver still to post them here for all to see. Good job, Cathy.

I have never heard of the 'ashes" but am pleased to learn. You have taken this photo for a reason and I think it is because it means this day is important to you!

I admire people who take selfies without hiding behind something

I like it, lady! I had a mug shot selfie myself this year. I remember the first time years ago that I saw people walking around with ashes on their heads and wondering what the heck the mark was. I've never been to an Ash Wednesday service.

Nice to do this for your journey, Cathy. Re: your shot... if you can change white balance on your phone, that would help. This was possibly florescent light?

I am so proud of you for the shot! I have never been brave enough to show the ashes on me!

Awesome selfie

It's hard to take selfies if you're not comfortable in front of the camera that's why I avoid them. You are very brave and I think this shot works well for your journey. You are braver than me!

This is your journey and you are so right--this is part of it. Great job, Cathy.

Cool selfie. We, too, had our Ash Wednesday celebration. The ashes were poured on our heads, though.

Sometimes you have to tell it like it is - this is a great, honest shot. Good for you Cathy!

Great selfie, Cathy. You're right. It's a solemn occasion. You don't have to impress anyone but Him.

@cromwell @maggiemae @swilde @amandalomonaco @ozziehoffy @grammyn @kerristephens @olivetreeann @yonnie @paul2782 @sangwann @denisedaly @abhijit @tishpics @henrir @pammerritt @carolmw @filsie65 @ruthmouch @happypat I want to thank each of you for your comments on my Ash Wednesday selfie. You made me feel better about posting it. I thought about it all day yesterday for the word. This will probably be my last Ash Wednesday in my wonderful old church building as it goes up for sale in the next several days. It is such a solemn part of the liturgy - but more so this year for me in the place that has been my church home since I was five. Thank you for helping me with this one.

@cdonohoue I am so sorry to hear about your church! Did the congregation move to a new building? If I remember correctly it's a Presbyterian church? I hope another congregation will buy it so that it remains a church. It's always so sad to see them converted to something else!

Nice work, I never thought to take a photo of them.
