It is so difficult to take a picture of yourself. I never look relaxed - I've never liked having my picture taken. And, now, of course I prefer the other end of the camera. But I thought I'd give it a go for my birthday.
Here's last year. http://365project.org/cdonohoue/and-more/2013-02-18
It's OK. I'm not upset by telling my age. I wish there was less salt in my hair - but that is the way it is. I'm healthy - I'm a happy camper. Most especially since the camera became such part of my life. I tell folks that it is Prozac and Percocet all rolled into one.
What else strikes me about 63? The biggest thing is "time." Don't wait too long for what you want - we've decided now is the time for a good trip every year. Tell people how you feel about them - I do. I tell the folks that I love that I love them - out loud. You all are a huge part of my everyday life. I appreciate that more than I can every tell you. I need each and every one of you to make my day, help me along, recommend something else for me to learn, give me pointers and graciously let me learn from you. You are all important to my mental health.
Thank you all, for your comments and favs along the way. Thanks for being there. You never know when you say just what I need to hear. So, I'm celebrating my age. So far it is just fine.
Happy birthday, Cathy! I hope this year will be among your best... sounds like you are making the most of the wisdom we gain through the experience that comes with age. Health becomes more and more precious as the years pass... physical and mental! I find 365 quite therapeutic. You wear 63 well!
I checked last years and love that one! This one is slightly more serious, no small smile - just a quirk! Its difficult to get things exactly as you want to - many photos! Happy Birthday Cathy - you have a long way to catch up on me!
I'm with @maggiemae about your smile. You look so serious here! Terrific selfie other than that!! Blessed to count you as a friend too, Cathy! Happy birthday!
Happy Birthday Cathy! I love your honesty in sharing your valuable insights about aging. I'm about your age and understand your feelings completely. I cherish every moment with my family, friends and mother nature. That is why I love photography - to capture those special moments forever. When I have to take a selfie ( as I just did for my passport) I find it helpful to put a mirror right behind the camera so I can observe my expression. Then after about 200 shots I find one that is acceptable!:) (Thank goodness we don't still use film) You're a lovely lady with a great smile so I'd suggest using the mirror to relax and give yourself a beautiful smile!
Lovely selfie, Cathy and Happy Birthday to you! I understand what you are saying about not liking to have your picture taken. I don't like pictures of myself either.
@mccarth1 What a great idea! I have to try that. I also have to get a battery for the remote shutter. I kept running back to the chair.....technical difficulties.
Happy Birthday Cathy!!! Great selfie and great attitude! Saw that you need a battery for your remote so wanted to let you know today is also National Battery Day! Hope you enjoyed your day.
Happy Birthday, Cathy, 63 is wonderful and I agree with your musings, now is the time to do as you want and to remind people how much they mean to you. I hope you have a wonderful year heading to 64.
Happy Birthday Cathy! I do believe that there is a lot of truth to that old saying "You're as young as you feel!" A lot of that is really more in your head than in your body- so I think you've hit the nail on the head in using the creative outlet of photography to keep your days positive. I hope you have a great year ahead- with lots of opportunities to travel, tell the ones you love how much you love them, and of course, take pictures!! Nice selfie!
Happy Birthday to you! Great work on the selfie...I know it's not easy having gone through it myself recently :) I love your words....great food for thought and I will take your advice seriously:)
Really enjoyed reading your philosophy - one I try to copy. (Have a bunch more years on you so I've had more practice!) Like the selfie - tried my first - just don't have the nerve to post it :) As you said, good thing these aren't the days of film! And I definitely agree with your thoughts on the wonderful benefits of this site -there isn't a better group anywhere for the spirit than here on 365. Have another wonderful year.
