This is a sketch of Bridge house in Ambleside in the Lake District. It took me a long time to get it coloured but I am pleased with the end result it does look like Bridge House!
The house itself was built over a small bridge which covered a Beck by the original landowners who needed to get across to the other side of their land it was also used as an apple storage building. It was built in the 17th century and used for different things over many hundreds of years it’s been used as a Cobblers a weavers, an antique shop and a tea shop. When used as a tea shop in the 18th century the back door was actually blocked up and an oven was put in its place you can still see where the door was in the original stonework. It was also a home in the 19th century to a weaver who made furniture and his family of six children the place is absolutely tiny I can’t imagine where six children would’ve fit.!
It is now owned by the National Trust and iis open daily for people to have a look round it is set out as it would’ve been when it was lived in with just two chairs a few bits and bobs and an oven that’s all. It’s upstairs room is reached by a staircase on the outside of the front of the building. If anyone would like to know more just put the title in the search bar.
