I was lucky enough to find this nifty brass Aladdin's Lamp several years ago at an antique shop. I don't think it is too old, but it caught my eye right away. It was made in India. I bought it hoping it still had its magical powers and of course three wishes, but apparently they had been used up. It also sits quietly on my shelf at work, and I am hoping that eventually the Genie will feel sorry for me and decide to at least grant me one wish. Today was a 12 hour day, and a busy one at that, so I did not have time to take a photo outdoors. I looked over at my shelf and decided, why not share another item from my collection. Hope you don't mind.
Fantastic lamp. Maybe it has a special timetable to accept wishes and the right moment is about to come. Keep it close. In the mean time it seems you have to work quite hard.
We lived in Germany when I was a child and my mother brought back so much of this style decorative pieces and one actually similar to yours - and candlesticks and bowls and little plates. At one time some of it had color in the etching but with time and all the polishing it all came out. I have no idea what ever happened to it all.
My family had one just like this all the years I was growing up. I wonder if we still have it somewhere?? I loved it as a kid... sparked great imaginative play.
