I've just "officially" sold my first print! I'll be sending it off priority to California in the morning!
It wouldn't have been possible without the use of Jake's expansive gallery, so huge thanks to @jsorensenart !!!
I have a second purpose for this thread: this is not a favorite of mine. In fact, I was going to replace it in the gallery. But somebody came along and liked it enough to pay for it, so let this be a motivator for you. Don't be afraid to put your stuff out there! :)
In the spirit of sharing, post the one photo from your project you would like to get paid for!
Get in there fella, sweet. I took the plunge and started back in August last year, and have lived like a pauper since :) This one is proving quite popular
I can just imagine how great you must feel. Good job. I know you asked to post a picture but I am way to much a newbie at this point to have such a picture to share. Someday, though, someday.
Oh that is so very awesome Aaron! I am so very happy for you! I just knew your work would be recognized soon! I
know this is your first of very many many more to come! :)
More virtual high-fives and hugs going your way!
Honestly a HUGE congrats! :) That is awesome!
@grizzlysghost Congratulations. It is such an amazing shot. I hope it is okay to say, I am very surprised it is your first--I have seen very few of your photos that I wouldn't love to have in my home or my husband's office.
Congratulation Aaron. it is a beautiful shot and like many others here said before I am suprised its your first. You have so many great photos in your project! I just had three photos of my project printed on canvas last week but only as gifts for friends. Yet it was a great feeling to see them printed ;)
@jodeewatts or anyone else who wants to know how to go about selling their work: You could start by getting involved in your local community arts. For example, where I'm from we have an organization that has yearly dues (nominal) and they keep us informed of various galleries and fine art fairs that are looking for artists, and many events they sponsor themselves. You can see about displaying in various coffee shops around town. Start your own website on SmugMug or Zenfolio and have a Facebook page to get the word out. :-) Go to a small gallery show that is having an artist reception and meet the gallery managers. It's also a good way to meet other artists. Just a few suggestions on putting yourself out there ;-)
Huge congratulations!!! Funny that this was a photo you were going to replace. I find my personal favorites garner little attention, while others I dislike can do very well. You are right--you just have to put yourself out there.
Congratulations Aaron!! I can only imagine this is the beginning of many more sales for you!! Your talent is amazing! I entered an art show through work over a year ago, just completely terrified to display my work. I ended up selling two of the three pieces even before the show started and it was a total and complete surprise to me! I am trying to get myself out there more, so am loving the advice from this thread! Congrats again!!
Congratulations Aaron. It is a beautiful photo and I am sure the first of many you will sell. And now Jake has an empty spot to put that replacement photo of yours up.
@grizzlysghost Awesome! Can you tell me more about aluminum prints? What are the benefits? I've don't think I have ever seen one. Just wondering what your opinion was, if it was worth the cost versus a regular print. I was thinking it would make a great gift. Thanks.
Huge congrats to you, Aaron! I'm also really surprised this is your first, but it's bound to just be the first of many, I'm sure! All your work is sell-worthy, in my opinion!
Well, let's see. First off, congratulations on selling your photo. That's excellent news.
Here's a shot that a friend of mine saw on Facebook and purchased the rights for a mailer he sent out last Thanksgiving. I keep him in mind anytime I take shots of maple leaves now.
This is the one shot I'd love to sell. I'm so pleased with the sharpness of the focus and the vivid colors on this.
@mandyj92 Thanks Amanda! The company I order my aluminum prints through infuses the ink into the metal, so it is fade-resistant and weather resistant; you can put them on your deck if you'd like. They come with the mount already attached, so it is wall-ready (no frame necessary). Also very lightweight.
@tammeray Haha, it's funny you bring that one up; I just hung up an acrylic version (20x30 inch) today! I could ship to Australia; I'd have to charge more though :)
@tammeray Sure! I'm pretty sure you've heard of canvas prints (having your image printed large on canvas). It's the same principle, only having your image printed on an aluminum sheet or an 1/4 inch acrylic sheet (your image is on the back of the sheet, so it really brightens up and gives it depth viewing it through 1/4 inch of acrylic). Just different mediums I prefer over paper, especially at large sizes.
First, I can't get over that this is the first time you have sold anything. I thought you were an ol' pro and selling for the last while. Your shots are wonderful and visually gorgeous. I'll wish you good luck, but you so do not need it.
Second, I totally agree with you about 'not your favourite' selling. I started a small Christmas business this past season and the photos I thought would sell didn't (because they were my personal favs) and the shots I really didn't care for did sell.
@grizzlysghost both those mediums sound cool :) what sizes do the aluminium come in ? I will have a long veranda when I build my new house I am thinking an outdoor gallery space would be cool , would have to think long and hard on what images as so many on here blow me away .
$250 for a 20 x 30 inch sounds so cheap , I would think that embedding your image into aluminium would be more expensive , and then you are also selling your image . @grizzlysghost
So happy for you! I'm sure the owner will enjoy it for years to come! Of course, I think you could have your own gallery... I am a huge admirer of your work!
@tammeray The largest aluminum I sell is 24x36 inches, and the smallest 8x10 inches, with many sizes in between. If you want to post outside, aluminum is the way to go!
I've sold four of mine that I have posted on 365 (but not because of 365). Those would be my 25th November shot, my 6th August shot, my 27th June shot, and my 15th June shot. As for which one I'd most like to get paid for, I'd probably say the 15th June shot (mission accomplished!), but of the others, I keep thinking this one should be sales-worthy:
Congrats Aaron thats awesome news! Ans you're right you gotta get your stuff seen out there. I have and I've sold a pretty wide variety of my photos ;)
congratulations, aaron. it is a great feeling, isn't it? you have so many great photos, this is just the beginning. i myself have sold five already, but now my aim is to be able to take better photos, and perhaps something great like this. three cheers for you!
Cannot believe this is the first one you have sold aaron. Like you said this is a great shot but you do have lots better. Start of more sales for you I hope.
Congrats! I know I'm not even close to being as good as you but I've had some offers on purchasing some of my shots. The only problem is I have no idea how to go about and how much to sell for? any advice on this? I know I still have a long way to go but its still exciting :) @grizzlysghost
Congrats Aaron!
I sell my photos every week to a newspaper... not nearly as much as @grizzlysghost got for his work of art but I go for quantity and consistency. It's also about the experience. For example today I shot a dance show at the high school and was amazed by a boy with cerebral palsy perform a number he choreographed himself. There was not a dry eye in the audience, myself included! So inspiring...
@gprosper26 I wish I could offer you advice, but as you know I've just started as well :) I wasn't sure if my prices were too high because a business acquaintance of mine declined to purchase one once they found out, but I kept to my guns and sold one today! I also got extremely lucky because Jake lets me take up some wall space in his business. I would start by printing up a couple of your best and take them around to see if shops would be willing to sell them, or at least display them. Mine are easy because they are sights of the local area, so they have special meaning to most people coming through our sleepy little town. As to price; I just tacked on an amount I thought was fair to the cost of my printing/shipping.
Congratulations Aaron - now that you have got the ball rolling I'm sure you will sell many more - I thought from the quality of your photos you were already a professional photographer.
Congrats Jake - that is excellent! ... it's been said and you have explained already, but still I want to emphasize in amazement : not professional photographer? only now? :-D ... I agree with you - put your photos out there : market your photos; market your brand (YOU); analyze product (photos), usage, niche, audience, target, etc. - use the sources available to you - e.g. internet is an easy place to start - if you don't market them, how will they be seen and how will you get known!?
@grizzlysghost CONGRATULATIONS!!! That is really awesome :) Like they say, art and all those things it incorporates, really is subjective. Some I don't really like, others do but some I love don't seem so well received. Now you really can say "professional"... you have some amazing shots!
thats fanatstic Aaron, although i can hardly say that im surprised, i have one of your snowy scenes as my wallpaper :-)
I quite liked this one as far as being a print goes although i wouldnt necassarily say that its one of my better photos..
Aaron that's awesome, congratulations. I also find it hard to believe you haven't sold any work before, your photos are so professional!
If I were to pick one of mine that I think would look good on the wall, I would probably go with this one. It's always been a special one for me.
Congratulations, Aaron! Your work deserves to be paid for and hung on many, many walls!
I sold a big print (90cm by 70cm or thereabouts) of this one, my first and only theme winner shot to a dancer friend of mine. She did buy two others, as well, but I like the fact that she wanted the dance veil shot, as it had a special meaning to her. Probably won't be able to sell this to non-dancers, though. But that's ok. :)
Aaron, super special - and so well-deserved. Not to mention how lucky you are to have Jake as a friend and supporter! I've only gotten a $100 for one photo that was a contest winner, but BOY did it feel good!!
@grizzlysghost Hey Aaron, I was curious if you printed your landscape on the silver surface or white surface on aluminum? I ordered one on silver with an aspen shot of mine a few weeks back and love it, but wasn't sure how it would turn out with a mountain scene? Just wanted to see what you prefer and if the details/colors were retained? Thanks so much!
@exposure4u I've only done one on silver and I didn't like it much, so all of my others are on white (I am a little scared to go silver again). The colors are fantastic on white, and gloss really intensifies the color! In short, I'm very happy with the white base. :)
@grizzlysghost Thank you so much for info! That really helps me out! I was getting ready to place another order and thought I may like the white better with the mountain scene, so I sure appreciate your thoughts!
@grizzlysghost awesome Aaron, I am sure that is just the first of many. Your photography is very inspiring, your recent shots over the past week have left me gobsmacked ... and therefore speechless and that aint easy to do!! I don't spend as much time on here as I would like..- but playing the lotto again today .. perhaps things will change.. So brilliant and congrats Aaron... here's to more!
Congratulations Aaron! No Surprise that you sold a Pic! Figured you have sold tons of them by now!! There are a few if not meny that i would buy from you to!! :) Your are a Magnificent Atrist and i just feel blessed to have met you here in this great Community! Here's to #1! and many many more!!!
@grizzlysghost
Does it count as selling it if you got paid to take it!?
Alas, I am a long, long way from anyone actually giving me money for owt... maybe one day, it'll come up :fingerscrossed:
know this is your first of very many many more to come! :)
More virtual high-fives and hugs going your way!
Honestly a HUGE congrats! :) That is awesome!
My boyfriend loves this one and would like it printed.
This is my all time favorite from my project
do you post to australia ?
I really like this one and would purchase a print of it for my new home

Live and learn! :)

I'm thinking of printing some of mine & getting a stall at a local market but am still in the thinking stage!
I quite liked this one as far as being a print goes although i wouldnt necassarily say that its one of my better photos..
I think I would like to have this one as a print and could see someone buying it for a beach house:
If I were to pick one of mine that I think would look good on the wall, I would probably go with this one. It's always been a special one for me.
I think this one's a money shot, taken earlier this week:
I sold a big print (90cm by 70cm or thereabouts) of this one, my first and only theme winner shot to a dancer friend of mine. She did buy two others, as well, but I like the fact that she wanted the dance veil shot, as it had a special meaning to her. Probably won't be able to sell this to non-dancers, though. But that's ok. :)
I've already sold prints of some of my shots:
and this one I have sold 7 prints of so far (ranging in size from 8x12 to 14x20)
But I'd love to see someone buy this one, because I'm so proud of it:
Recently sold this one for $300!
