20th September 2021

1 year, 176 days since the start of the 1st lock down in March 2020

Thanks to my mistake thinking that our apartment had a washing machine, we had to visit a laundrette this morning so we decided to make this a relaxing day to catch up with tasks. The laundrette was one if two suggested by our host and it was excellent - clean, had free Wi-fi and detergent was included in the price.

Just over an hour later we headed back with clean clothes and a few damp ones to be dried on our terrace. We siesta-ed in the afternoon as it was so hot but as the heat started to get less, we walked across the city determined to find the aquaduct. First we found the old arches built into the city walls and shops and then suddenly we saw it stretched across about six lanes of traffic but still looking very impressive.

We had hoped to find a good restaurant on our walk back but we couldn’t find anywhere we fancied so in the end I found a Pingo Doce within walking distance and got there just a few minutes before it closed to buy an easy dinner to cook - it was a challenge to work out how the oven worked and there were several bits missing that hold the racks in place but despite these challenges we enjoyed dinner for substantially less than if we had eaten out!
