5th February 2022

1 year, 303 since the start of the 1st lock down in March 2020

Now this is more like it, we woke to bright sunshine and I was determined to wear my shorts (albeit the longer ones) and a T-shirt. I also didn’t want to take a jacket on principle! It was warm but a little chilly in the shade but I wasn’t giving in. In the sunshine it was much more relaxing to explore and we found a lot of amazing public art sculptures. We also came across a group practicing their skills at Capoeira - a Brazilian martial art. It was vey impressive.

We wandered the area and ended up back at Dominos cafe where we had dinner last night. Yes again we managed to get a table and soon after the restaurant was full. Today I tried the local stew made with beans, chorizo and pork, it came with rice and was delicious. Unfortunately it was a generous portion so yet again we picked up supplies from Pingo Doce for dinner at home.

We popped back so I could pick up a jacket and after a rest we headed out again to the salt flats but this time with my big camera and long lens. It is an amazing place, slightly scruffy - almost as if it is built on a waste dump but - I don’t think this can be the case. We wandered fro a while until. We found a large flock of flamingoes that were asleep but gradually waking up. The stilts were there and the pair of storks are not in position on their nest on the top of a large chimney! To top t all, just as we were leaving we spotted bats as well. Much larger than Pipistrelles, I have no idea what but I managed to get a few rather bad photos to show Mum. Another good day and we were pretty tired when we headed back.
