A beautiful day walking on the North York Moors, from the hamlet of Hawnby to the visitor centre at Sutton Bank gave many photographic opportunities.
The walk took me westwards past the remote Arden Hall and up a steep climb onto the moor tops, and eventually onto the Cleveland Way long distance footpath. Following this southwards I got to Sutton Bank, but shortly before the end of the walk I found this view of part of the cliffs which overlook the Vale of York, and which on a clear day give a wonderful panorama towards the distant Pennine hills. Sadly, that view was denied me due to hazy conditions, but the softer sunlight did bring out the colour in these cliffs.
It is recorded that John Wesley (one of the founders of the Methodist Church) witnessed a massive landslip here during his travels in 1775, but there have been only minor landslips more recently. The Cleveland Way footpath runs along the edge of the cliff.
