Chasing the Rainbow by fishers

Chasing the Rainbow

A Grand Central train service leaving York for Sunderland is caught by afternoon sunshine which has just broken through a mass of dark cloud, and a rainbow has formed over the locomotive.

I had arrived back in York on a local rail service and when I got off the train the rain was heavy, so I decided to wait a while before braving the weather to make my way home.

This proved to be a good decision, since shortly before this shot there had been a heavy downpour of hail, with the ground being white over.

This had quickly melted and the cloud appeared to be breaking up, so after this shot I braved the walk home. I made it half way home before the heavy rain started again. Some days you just can't win!

Fantastic capture Ian, sad about getting caught in the rain. Talking of which, we've had 125mm (5 inches) in the past 24 hours.

@tonydebont

Thank you Tony - we had far less rain than you, but it did feel pretty unpleasant at the time. We really ought to be used to it now!
