For some weeks West Coast Railways have opperated a steam hauled train service from York to Scarborough every Thursday, and yesterday was the last day of the service for this year - but hopefully it will be back again in 2017!
The service operates diesel hauled from Carnforth to Holgate sidings in York, where the diesel is replaced by the steam locomotive. The train then runs into York station before it departs to Scarborough.
These shots show it entering platform 5 (top left), standing at platform 5 (bottom left), beginning to pull away from platform 5 (top right), and crossing the points to get onto the Scarborough line (bottom right)
like how you caught the train both coming and going. interesting collection of shots. i particularly enjoy the bottom left one with the curve in the roof and the steam coming out of the engine.
Great collage of beautiful shots. The steam train looks very romantic. Some ten years I visited the Swindon steam train museum and I will never forget the experience.
Thank you all for your lovely comments and favs, they are very much appreciated.
It was surprising how many people were at the railway station to see this final steam departure to Scarborough, despite the fact that it has run every Thursday during the summer with the same locomotive each time.

Thank you Bob - when there is a steam train in action, I like to be there!
