The yarn bombers of Thirsk have been busy again, and have created one of the best marks of remembrance I've seen in a very long time.
Some 35,000 poppies were created, both by the people of Thirsk, and from their supporters around the world. Gifts of money and wool were also received to aid the effort.
Here a large net decorated with poppies hangs from the east end of the church, and a considerable length of wall was also decorated.
The Catholic church in Thirsk also had it's boundary wall decorated, as did the Anglican and Methodist churches in nearby Sowerby.
Two shop window displays in Thirsk also included large numbers of poppies, and some of the benches on bollards in the Market Place were also decorated with poppies.
There have been previous yarn bombing efforts in Thirsk, most famously for the Tour de Yorkshire cycle race.
Very cool display of poppies. We don't seem to utilize poppies as much as we did when I was a child. In fact, I haven't seen any this year. Flags seem to have taken over as the symbol for Veterans' Day in the USA.
