York has a number of hidden corners where there is a sudden magnificent view of part of York Minster, and this is one of them, with some of the chapter house and the central tower visible.
The street itself may now be a quiet cobbled backwater, but it was once another of the major Roman roads in the city, the Via Decumana, which lead north-east from the headquarters building to the north-east gate of the Roman city. The site of the headquarters building was below the Minster, and some remains of it can be seen in the Minster undercroft.
The Roman city gate to which this road led can no longer be seen, with a later medieval wall built across it, but beyond that the route of the Roman road can be traced along a series of paths and alleys for almost a mile.
I love this alleyway, it's one of my favourite views of the Minster. You have it perfectly here, a beautiful shot. Thank you for giving me a smile today.
And I assume that is the reknowned York Minster which I have wanted to visit but never did each time I travelled to the UK. Beautiful alley and pov. Looks so insignificant with the towering minister behind it.
Thank you all for your lovely comments and favs, they are very much appreciated!
York is a fascinating place to explore, with it's maze of busy tourist streets, quiet hidden corners and impressive views. Should any of you make a trip here and want a tour to some of the hidden gems, do let us know.

Thank you Lee. I love this quiet peaceful place at the heart of the city.

Thank you Vesna - one of the windows in there is larger than a tennis court!
