This shot was taken at the eastern edge of Wellhead Park, from a bridge over this arm of Bourne Eau from South Street to the war memorial.
Bourne is a market town in southern Lincolnshire. It lies on the eastern slopes of the limestone Kesteven Uplands and western edge of the Fens. This sounds an impressive transition, but the uplands rise to less than 100 metres above sea level, and the fens are at around sea level, so not very dramatic at all. The population recorded in the 2011 census was 14,456, but is growing quite quickly as new housing developments on the south edge of the town take place.
The town is located on a north-south Roman road now known as King Street. It was built around some natural springs, hence the name 'Bourne' (or 'Bourn' in earlier times), which comes from the Anglo-Saxon burna or burne meaning 'water' or 'stream'. It lies on the intersection of two main roads: the A15 running north-south and the A151 running east-west.
This is the closest I got to the town centre last week while staying with Louise and her family. The shopping area lies about 200 metres north of where I'm stood, but I avoided it because social distancing seems to have been abandoned there.
delightful quaint scene, so peaceful, great to see that these water bourne were kept. The reflections add to its beauty
Sadly, social distance has been abandoned in most places
Thank you all for your lovely comments and favs, they are very much appreciated.
Since I took this shot, the view has changed quite significantly. The water is kept artificially high to power a water wheel in a museum to the south, where restoration work is taking place. Some of the work has needed the water level to be lowered, so there is nothing but a trickle of water in this scene until early next week.
Lovely shot of the reflections. A wise move to avoid the shops I think. We seem to have abandoned social distancing here too in some areas and there is talk of Birmingham being locked down. Such a worry..
Thank you Pat - it looks like we could be heading into lockdown again which isn't great, so I need to find a new project to work on if it does happen. Perhaps I could get on with scanning more of my old transparencies.
