York's second river, the River Foss, has an interesting walkway beside it, and it is many years since I last walked it. Lovely warm sunny weather meant that yesterday was an ideal time to follow part of this walk north from Monk Bridge.
This shot is taken where the river runs alongside Huntington Road, and is crossed by this rather long bridge. The bridge once carried a single track railway which ran from the York-Scarborough line along the north and east sides of the city to a goods yard at Foss Islands, and provided a link to the privately owned Derwent Valley Railway.
Today the former rail route is a cycleway, and there is an art trail along it with a variety of sculptures on the theme of electricity and magnetism. One of the features can just be seen in the form of an arch above the bridge.
( Have seen that problen on the TV news. )
Thank you all for your lovely comments and favs, they are very much appreciated.
When the opportunity arises I will be taking a walk along the old railway so I can share some of the features along there with you.
