On December 12th 2020, 21-year-old Jasmine Harrison left Tenerife, along with 36 other boats, as part of the Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge (TWAC). Since 2015, soloists, pairs, trios, and quads have competed to cross the Atlantic from La Gomera, Tenerife to Nelson’s Dockyard, Antigua - the path taken by Columbus’s fleet centuries ago.
Jasmine reached Antigua, completing her 4,800km journey across the Atlantic and becoming the youngest woman to solo row an ocean. The previous record holder was Katie Spotz of the US, who was just under 23 years old when she completed her crossing in 2010.
Jasmine lives in Thirsk, and to mark her success the Yarnbombers of Thirsk created a display to celebrate her achievement. Part of that display can still be seen on the south side of the Market Place, and this collage is composed of some of the display.
If I had been in Thirsk two days later, I would have been able to see Jasmine and her boat, which were in the Market Place all day.
Thank you all for your lovely comments and fav, they are very much appreciated.
Hopefully, there will be more from Thirsk when the next display appears.
