During my walk at Sutton Bank last Sunday there was a gradual but threatening build up of cloud, seen clearly in this shot.
However, good fortune was with me, and I hadn't got wet when I got on another Moorsbus at just after 3pm back to Helmsley. By the time the bus had got away from the visitor centre and onto the main road, there was a tremendous thunder storm and a torrential downpour of rain.
After Helmsley, the bus does a short loop past Rievaulx Abbey and then back to Helmsley again. Only a short journey but I stayed on the bus to avoid getting wet. By the time it had completed that loop and was back in Helmsley again, the sun was out again. Still a lot of cloud as well, so I went to find a sheltered spot beneath a pavillion at the local recreation ground. It was a lovely place to sit and enjoy the view over the town, and I stayed dry until it was time for my bus back to York.
Once again while on the bus there was a heavy downpour of rain, and in places on the journey roads were covered with water. The bus dropped me just a few minutes walk from home, and for the first time I needed my waterproof jacket on.
Sorry for the later than usual post, I've been on a Moorsbus again today and only just got home.
Thank you all for your lovely comments and favs, they are very much appreciated.
It is always a risk spending a day on the Moors with the uncertain weather that we have at the moment, but it is hard to stay away from such a beautiful place!
