I saw this moorhen walking on the grass close to the lake in Rowntree Park, York.
Moorhens - sometimes called marsh hens - are medium-sized water birds that are members of the rail family (Rallidae). They are close relatives of the coot, which could also be seen around the lake during my walk.

I always think of moorhens as cheerful birds, perhaps because of their colourful beak and legs. They are fascinating to watch as they walk on the grass with their leaning forward posture.
I can see that as well Vesna! Since I took this photo, much of this park will have been flooded - but at least that is better than flooding people's homes.
