The use of artificial Christmas trees in public displays seems to be increasingly popular. This tree is at the centre of York Christmas Market, and the constantly changing colours in the tree are mirrored in the lights on the permanent trees along Parliament Street creating a lovely effect.
Sadly, this tree no longer stands proud, with strong winds overnight and this morning blowing it over. This was just a small sample of the damage done, with the railway between York and Leeds blocked earlier by a fallen tree, and the roof ripped off a block of flats in Sheffield.
I haven't heard of the effects of the wind in other areas, but the wind strength was forecast to be greater further north and in Scotland.
Lovely decoration. We have been having strong winds and rain for the last week and all the lights on my outdoor tree came off the branches and had a hell of a time yesterday to put them back again and tie them up so they wouldn't fall off again.
Thank you all for your lovely comments and favs, they are very much appreciated.
Sadly a falling Christmas tree at a Christmas Market in Oudenaarde, western Belgium killed a woman and injured two others yesterday, rather putting into perspective the minor inconvenience of the falling over of our rather smaller tree at York Christmas Market.
Fav.

And your narrative/comment certainly puts things in perspective.
Thank you John. We have been rather battered by strong winds recently, with more forecast later this week.

It is a bit different isn't it?
