Still on our evening wander in York, and still in the Shambles, and a window display in The Shop That Must Not Be Named. This is one of several shops in the Shambles with a Harry Potter theme, and which help attract huge crowds to the street.
It is interestind that JK Rowling, writer of Harry Potter says that she has never visited Shambles and that it is not what inspired her.
On the other hand, perhaps it was the inspitation of the film makers making the Harry Potter films. At the time the films were being made York had become quite a popular location for film makers and was used in other films, though not for filming Harry Potter itself.
It is quite amazing that huge numbers of Harry Potter fans visit York, and especially the Shambles, when there is no direct link to either the Harry Potter books or films, and that several businesses depend on the mythical link!
This looks gorgeous and very mysteries and stands up well to its name. I am not a Harry Potter fan my granddaughter, Michaela is and she has been to the UK to the Harry Potter museum or something like that.
Thank you all for your lovely comments and favs, they are very much appreciated.
The success of Shambles in being identified with Harry Potter and developing successful businesses is a great example of the power of marketing over reality!
Thank you Lizzy, it is good to hear from you. I often have questions about the photos I see, so I like to add a bit of background information to the photos I post, to answer at least some of the questions that others may have.
