Here we are entering the 15 kilometer long Geirangerfjord. It is listed on the UNESCO World Heritage list and is said to be the most dazzling of the fjords. There are vertical mountainsides with numerous waterfalls and snowcapped mountain peaks.
The fjords are often described as "nature's own work of art," formed when the glaciers retreated and seawater flooded the U-shaped valleys. The fjords can be long and quite deep and often surrounded by high mountains. There are more than 1,000 fjords around the country.
