Took this shot underneath Central pier. The pier was opened on 30th May 1868 & it is now 339 meters long. The structure is cast iron with a wooden decking. The Ferris wheel was added in 1990 & is 33 meters high. The centre of the pier had to be strengthened especially. There have been two fires one in 1964 & the other in 1973. There are various amusements, a theatre, bars etc but at the pier head it is quite unusually quiet with just seats & a rather bizarre mini gravestone with artificial flowers in memory of a young man who I presume drowned. I quite liked the evening suns rays filtering through the iron work here ! We are out until late tonight so please excuse no comments until we get in !!
Piers make beautiful subjects for photos Pat and you've done a beautiful job here.
In fact I think there are two great images to be had from this scene,. You could do a crop below the sun and have a beautiful letterbox of the pier, sand and a tiny bit of sky :)
Fabulous flare of the setting sun Pat. Love the lines and the history lesson. I'm now singing that song in my head. Beaches was a favourite movie of ours when my girls were growing up.
