Elm will burn like churchyard mould
Even the very flames are cold.
Poplar gives a better smoke,
Burns your eyes & makes you choke,
Apple wood will scent your room
with the scent of flowers in bloom.
But Ash when wet or Ash when dry
a Queen can warm her slippers by.
I have tried to catch up some what today but sorry if I have missed you! It took me ages to scroll down & might have missed some of your lovely pictures !!
To all the welcome new followers too, thank you for the follow & I will take time to look at your photos over the next few days !!
@jmj The poem says birch & firwood burn too fast !! Just google poem on burning wood , the poem itself is longer than I have written here..author unknown.
So which wood is this one?! Somehow having the colour makes it a more wintry scene - lovely stuff! I'm feeling terrible about not checking in with new followers - I was inundated (which is nice) but I just haven't got time to get around everybody.
How beautiful this is, Pat. Great color and silhouette. Love the poem. I haven't been feeling up to par and now have the class tonight. Am behind too. Let's console each other. :)
@karenann Thanks Karen, I love the poem & there are more verses. In fact I love the poem better than the photo really but when I saw this picture decided to use it to illustrate the words.. Hope you buck up soon !!!
@judithg Just a mess of branches really Judith & you can hardly see anyone in the middle but hadn't much else today. I thought the bonfire pictures were a master stroke but they were rubbish !!
