Home from home. by happypat

Home from home.

I was a little early for my callanetics class this morning so just went down to the canal basin for a few photos.
I could smell the bacon cooking & a radio on.....just like at home only on the water !
On the left of the picture out of sight is the T'owd Tithe Barn pub & restaurant so they only need to make breakfast & then eat out in the evening! There are lots of barges in this basin but I think this is the prime spot.
Haha! They even grow their own plants. Fascinating.

Interesting way to live and a lovely spot! Does the canal ever get wavy? Would you need a strong stomach to live there?

@shutterbugger No Jenn it gets a little wavy if there is a strong wind but nothing you could get sea sick on !!!

Some friends used to live on a narrow boat - I was always amazed how cosy and warm it was, sat in the freezing water!

Gorgeous photo - looks relaxing and aren't the plants flourishing!

I bet you felt good going to callanetics and not indulging in bacon! Does anything smell better than bacon cooking?

Pretty picture, brings back happy memories of barge holidays on the Cheshire Ring with friends when I was young!

Fascinating lifestyle! Great POv, Pat! Beautiful color and lighting here .. and has a look of adventure. Do you know if they take these boats out frequently for travel or do they leave them tied up most of the time?

I can understand the charm. And the smell of bacon and eggs is irresistible.

We used to have a narrowboat - I miss it!

(These days of low water will be a real problem for them)

@tooki my niece lived on a narrowboat for years - she gave up last winter. The big freeze was awful for them, they could never leave the boat overnight or everything would freeze up, pipes crack etc.

@shutterbugger no - but once or twice it got wavy enough for us to shake the mooring and found ourselves waking up drifting down the canal!

PS - great photo!

It's not up near Top Lock is it Pat? I used to love going there for chicken in a basket - height of sophistication.

great shot here Pat - love the detail in this - and you can't beat the smell of a canal boat fire...with homemade cooking to boot!
