Bus station. by happypat

Bus station.

While I was in town I walked up to the bus station to check out the preparations for tomorrows big Passion Play. Because it is Preston Guild year the whole town is putting on this massive play which will be televised tomorrow on BBC1 at 12 noon. Fern Britain is the narrator.
The main live part is taking place on the bus station concourse & they were preparing today ..you can see one of the cameras here ! There is a final rehearsal this evening. I think some of it has been already filmed in the train station & I wish I had been there as they decorated it as in war time, would have been a good photo.
The powers that be have been trying to knock this bus station down for ages but it is a bit of an iconic building & might even be listed now !!

Ugly thing to my mind !!
Love the lines here, Pat. Looks like you are having a lovely Spring day!

Well whatever next?! The bus station eh? You're right the railway station would look great all decorated but I've spent many a happy (and also just many an hour!) waiting for the bus home from there. I'm thinking stand 12?? And of course going to and from further afield so I have a bit of a soft spot for it - ugly but not really spoiling the surrounding area which isn't an oil painting either! Just going to ring my mum now to tell her to put the telly on tomorrow lunchtime... BTW - Can't complain about that sky!!

I've heard about the debate whether to demolish this bus station or not on national radio but I haven't seen it for myself until now, I think it could go!

LOts of very interesting lines and the sky is such a wonderful blue!

How exciting! Do they charge for watching this so publicly?

I think it's a very sci-fi sort of bus station. Hope it shows up well on the camera!

@bpaquette Oh it was very cutting edge in it's day Barbara but unfortunately hasn't got a very happy history as it has been a suicide destination in the past.

@maggiemae No all free but you have to have tickets just for the numbers. I'm not going as I live quite a few miles from Preston but now it's arrived I wish I was going. You could join in as part of the pay at different levels, singing, part of the crowd or more.

@happypat oh that is sad.

Sounds like the debate could get interesting. Would be a shame to lose it

i like your bus station Pat, it has a certain amount of charm, very urban and quite retro

This is Port Talbot, right? Googled it and found it is going to be a monumental event! 72 hours!
April 5th, 2012
@maggiemae No Maggiemae, Preston in Lancashire. Port Talbot is in Wales but there are many Passion plays on tomorrow it's just that the Preston one is going to be on the main TV channel tomorrow live at lunchtime. Thank you for your interest !!!

@phil_howcroft I must admit when I see it like this I do think it looks quite smart & this is only two thirds of it as I wanted to get the camera in.

Beautiful sky color and great linear lines here, Pat. I love the shot with that other camera in it! How exciting to spot it and too bad that you missed the earlier shooting...I know that you would have gotten some great candids.

Excellent capture!

Oh wow...sounds like a major production about to take place! Great shot of the set prep and the historic bus depot, Pat. Sorry you're too far away to make it back as an extra ~ it might have been your big break into show biz! :)
